  • Jean Jacques Fabien Curepipe, Mauritius

Creativity, generosity, Easy contact to make the couple at ease, being able to handle crowds, people and situations to get great photos and reassure the couple.

    • Hoe bent u beland in de fotografie-industrie?

I was passionate about photography since I was young. It's after looking at some stunning Wedding pictures done by top photographers that I was inspired to follow the same route. The freedom of creativity is what I enjoy the most into Wedding Photography.

    • Bent u fotogeniek?

      I would say half photogenic

I would say the light first. the way a subject is lit will make the picture attractive or repulsive. Then comes the subject itself.

    • Houdt u van reizen?

I moderately love traveling. I drive a lot and do not enjoy traveling so much.

Freedom of creativity, woaww effect from client when he looks at his pictures, satisfaction when I download and see nice shots, freedom to organize my time as I want, never a routine, always different, meet great people...

Sometimes very demanding which leaves me little space for family, having to recharge batteries every evenings, waiting for downloading pictures, sometimes chaining up days of shooting and having to drive long distances while being tired and sleepy.

    • Hoe gaat u om met kritiek?

It depends. I'm very committed into my job and I'm very generous in what I do (always deliver more photos than promise). I cannot do this job halfway. Therefore, I don't like people criticizing what I do since they don't know how much I give into what i do.

Getting distracted by people, girls, checking the phone at important moments, talk loud at official ceremonies... Totally prohibited to drink alcohol at a Wedding even if the couple proposes. Even after the duty, Never drink because We all have to go back home.

    • Wat ziet u de toekomst van fotografie?

Digital imaging has unleash creativity from photographers. I do not see it change when I see how people love pictures so much and love creative pictures. I sometimes fear that phones will replace proper cameras since it is already happening into the hotel industry nowadays. They less and less call upon professional photographers but rely on enthusiasts "instagrammers" to remain active on social networks and use phone pictures and vintage look to keep "in".

Freedom of creativity, magic moments, emotions and... clothes, special mood and atmosphere, being able to direct any kind of people from simple gentlemen and ladies to CEOs and Corporate directors to do whatever you want them to do, :-)

  • Ruud Claessen Maastricht, Nederland

      1) Do you like the photographer's work? 2) Do you like the photographer? Simple as that.

    • Hoe bent u beland in de fotografie-industrie?

In 2008, I was already doing amateur photography for a couple of year. To do something different for a change, I asked my uncle if I could photograph his wedding. It was his second marriage, they were not asking for a photographer, so there was little risk. I ended up liking it so much, that I decided to do it more.

    • Bent u fotogeniek?

No! I much rather be behind a camera.

Above all, the photo has to have a certain impact. Wether that's an intense emotion, a good vibe, or just a spectaculair visual impact. After that comes the technical part. So a good lighting, composition, etcetera. But for me, the impact is the most important part, by far.

    • Houdt u van reizen?

Yes, but with moderation though. I'd love to do 3-5 destination weddings a year. I don't think I'd enjoy doing 10, 15 or even more.

It sounds like a horrible cliché, but it's true: Every wedding is different. You never really know what's going to happen. Surprises can happen at every moment. Besides that, I think it's a great honor to be asked to create lifelong memories for the people that are getting married. 5, 10, 25 or even 50 years after they get married, people still remember who took their wedding photos. It's pretty wonderful that you can be an important part in people's lives.

Basically: The postprocessing. I have a horrible concentration when it comes to editing. I love editing my 50-75 favorites from a wedding, but after that, it gets hard for me to keep focused.

    • Hoe gaat u om met kritiek?

I try to extract what people really mean with their comments. Some people have difficulties in finding the right words to give feedback, sometimes making them sound rude. But I always try to figure out what's the real message there.

'Allowed' is a big word. I'm not the one to say what's allowed or not. However, I don't like to unnecessarily intervene in a wedding. With the exception of the posed shots, I don't like having to tell people what to do, where to stand or how to look.

    • Wat ziet u de toekomst van fotografie?

I think the future of wedding photography will be a further evolution of the direction it's going in right now. More journalistic stuff, more moments. But besides that: technical advances. Faster camera's, better low light capabilities, and other accessories like drones, light field cameras, and stuff like that, giving photographers even more tools to being creative.

I love many aspects of it. I love the fact that people are in a good mood, they take the time to look good as well. People get married in beautiful venues, and you as a photographer gets to be a part of so many people's special day. That's amazing.

    • Bent u fotogeniek?

      I don't feel like a photogenic person.

I am dealing, most of the time, with happiness and love during the day of wedding. I am in constant movement – meeting different people. The life looks like the box of chocolates – you never know what kind of clients you get :)

      Uncertainty of the future bookings.

    • Hoe gaat u om met kritiek?

I am handle very well constructive criticism – criticism helps my development of being better photographer.

I don't see that kind of things.

    • Wat ziet u de toekomst van fotografie?

Difficult to say – maybe the future will be screenshot from the video coverage. For sure there will be more and more competitiveness with the guests capturing the moments through their better and better phones and their ability to instantly share those photos on all social media platforms.

In few hours the photographer needs to capture the story of love between the bride and groom, connection to their friends, and nurture of their parents.
